A Quick Escape in Mexico City under Canopied Walkways

Living the soft life filled with warm days, beautiful people, and effortless luxury in Mexico City is our new obsession.

When it comes to the perfect escape, we’re all about destinations just a quick flight away, three hours or less for us, and we’re there! So, when we needed a little breather from the daily grind, we packed our bags and headed off on a Mexico City weekend getaway.

The city surprised us in all the best ways: clean, friendly, and incredibly easy to get around. And if you’re wondering about safe travel for women in Mexico City or whether it’s a good fit for first-time visitors, the answer is yes. We felt totally comfortable exploring, eating, and adventuring through the city.

Here’s a peek at the highlights from our quick but unforgettable weekend.

Hotel

Casa Cleo boutique by Viadora in the Condesa neighboorhood.

The cutest boutique hotel youv'e ever seeing. It's a house turn hotel.

In Mexico City, cozy patio with a grey chair a Casa Cleo boutique hotel, patterned blue and white tile wall, hanging black pots, and small potted plants. Sunlit and serene for luxury fashion editorials.

Elegant reception of Casa Cleo in Mexico City, Mexico with ornate columns, bird wall art, and a golden desk. Black chair on tiled floor. Warm lighting creates a calm atmosphere. Perfect for soft life travel magazine reading.

Cuisine

The cuisine in Mexico City is truly exquisite! Most of the meals we had were bursting with bold flavors and made with fresh ingredients. Guzina Oaxaca missed the mark for us as explained below. Here are the restaurants we loved:

Breakfast at Maque cafe

Breakfast at Mendl

Dinner at Husset

Dinner at Guzina Oaxaca

The highlight is the fresh guacamole made by our waiter. But main course was unappetizing. The texture was bizarre. It was a mix between undercooked and mushy. We don't recommend this dish.

Culture

The most inviting, full of genuine kindness, and warm people reside here! Even walking through the local markets felt easy and unbothered. The street vendors? So chill. No hounding, no pressure. Just warm smiles, beautiful handcrafted pieces, and the kind of relaxed energy that actually made us shop more. (Don't tell our carry-on that we're bringing way more than allowed - Eek!).

Here are the spots we recommend:

Chapultepec Castle
Circular stone building showing Chapultepec Castle architecture and design with Mexican flag on top, surrounded by manicured gardens and statues. Overcast sky creates a serene atmosphere.

Frida Kahlo Museum
Feminist icon's Frida Kahlo's leather torso brace with straps is displayed on a clear shelf against a white tiled wall. Displayed inside Frida Kahlo's museum, Mexico City, Mexico, reflecting great feminine energy travel inspiration.
Frida's body brace. The most heartbreaking thing I've ever seen.

Luche Libre

Scenery with canopied walkways everywhere

La Condesa neighborhood is high on shade equity, has lush greenery with tree-canopied walkways that made every stroll feel like a breath of fresh air, especially coming from a Chicagoan used to concrete and chaos.

It’s incredibly clean, walkable, and wrapped in greenery from every angle. Think: an urban jungle vibe, minus the wild animals or trees out to ruin you. Just calm, curated nature and the kind of peaceful energy that makes you want to wander aimlessly (like we did).

Architecture

An indulgence in European-inspired facade with romantic balconies, ornate ironwork, and contemporary accents at every turn.

We did a lot of walking on this trip, ditching Uber in favor of exploring the city on foot, and honestly, it was the best decision. Mexico City absolutely earns its spot on your list of stylish travel destinations. It gave us room to breathe, unwind, and soak in every little luxe moment.

So... when are you heading to Mexico City? We’d love to hear all about it!
