Surprisingly, Peru turned out to be quite an expensive journey. More expensive than Australia, and I've been there twice!
As always, there was plenty of walking, shopping, and dining. The food was outstanding, with everything tasting fresh. Only a few days were spent in Lima. The majority of the trip were spent in Arequipa, Cusco, and Ollantaytambo.
For weather reference, I was in Peru end of October.
I hope you enjoy scrolling through the Lima gallery :)
Getting there

The journey started at O'Hare airport. Made my connecting flight, then off to Lima.

There’s a funny story behind this hairdo. It’s called bantu knots. Basically, you coil your hair into little corkscrew and knot them. Once your hair is completely dry, you unravel the knots, and you get the most luscious, bouncy curls ever!
Honestly, I think the knots are beautiful on their own, so I decided to wear them out as my own little “airport” hairstyle. The plan was to take them down once I got to Lima and let the curls loose.
Unfortunately, the way I slept on the knots the night before, and then proceeded to sleep on them during the flight, had them looking REAL funny. Each knot was going in its own direction. Needless to say, I got self-conscious and I wasn’t loving them as a style anymore.
But it gets worse.
When I arrived in Peru and went through immigration, they took my picture. Y’all… I looked busted. I immediately told my friend, “I cannot commit a single crime while I’m in Peru because we all know THAT is the picture they’re going to use!” Not my cute passport photo. Nope. That immigration picture. But jokes on them! I've looked significantly worse at airports. I remember that one time I straight up looked like the rapper, Coolio, while flying out of MIA. Those where the early days of my travels and I didn't know they would ask me to remove my beenie. Lord, have mercy!
Anyway, I finally took the knots out, fully expecting to be redeemed by the curls. Well… I looked even more busted than I had anticipated!
And no, I did not take a picture. We don’t need that kind of entertainment.
Alright, enough about my hair trauma. On to the journey!

Welcome to AC hotel by Marriott: Malecon de la Reserva 729 Mira, Lima, in the Barranco neighborhood. It was a nice hotel. Nothing fancy. Just nice...
And a shot of the view, then straight to Tanta for lunch!

We had chicken causa, chicken tacos, and chicken stir-fry. Kinda basic but after a long flight, it did what it needed to do to hold us up.

Barranco and Miraflores Neighborhoods
I recommend those neighborhoods for solo traveling and yes, it's also safe for women.

Dinner at Che Cha Restaurant
I recommend it.

Testing my Super Model skills in those people's establishment. Because... why not?

Dinner at Casa Tambo Restaurant
Another great recommendation. Their pisco sour is strong, heads up :)

Street Photography in Downtown Lima

I had time before my flight back home.
Let's walk and enjoy Barranco's street art.
